Personally, I'm not doing anything with my job, my career, or my dreams so that you'll be my friend. I'm doing it because it makes a difference in people's lives and it fulfills me; that's the only reason. So if somebody's calling you a jackass or whatever they're calling you, just remember that as long as you can allow that to pass by, like the clouds that just go across the sky and then they're gone, you can just let that happen.
Only You Can Value Yourself, Not Others
If somebody's laughing and lashing out at you, you're going to stay within your power. You're going to continue to be fulfilled while there, and bless them, they're going to walk away extremely upset, and chances are that's not the only thing they're upset about in their life, and that's just the way it is. So if you're not intentionally trying to upset someone or hurt somebody or whatever, don't give it so much thought afterwards. Maybe you apologize if it's an act and not something you did intentionally, but keep moving forward and keep going. The only person that you need to like is yourself in order to be fulfilled; the approvals or opinions of others can't devalue you or can't value you; only you can value yourself. So I wanted to make this because I just think it's such an interesting experience when we face criticism, rejection, or someone's contempt for us and we just like to let it go. We're like, "Okay, okay, who cares?" It's not about winning or losing. You're not going to win if you don't let it affect you, but you're sure going to be a lot happier than the person who literally took the time out of their day and their energy to tell you how much they don't like you. Thanks for telling me that I really appreciate it, and now I'm going to move on with my day because that's the only thing that I can do.
Life Gives You Two Options: Empower or Disempower
How To Be OK With People Not Liking Me: You have two choices in life with everything that happens: let it empower you or disempower you today. This person got so upset at me for just stating my views on the world, and I'm not going to let it disempower me. I let it empower me more because I'm like, "Well, I just have to love myself more," so you can look at situations where somebody maybe doesn't approve of what you're doing with your life or the choices you're making or the words you're saying or how you look or how you dress.
You can look at that as an opportunity to become disempowered by it, or you can become empowered by it and say, "This is who I am, and I'm going to be happy no matter what, and I'm going to live the life I love no matter what, and because somebody calls you whatever they call you, it doesn't mean anything except that they're probably upset on a deeper level and that they're projecting it out, maybe not but probably." So what I'm inviting you to do is to remember that it's not somebody else's job to like you; it's just your job to like yourself. You don't need to do what you're doing to impress anybody, not even yourself; you just need to do what you love if you want to be fulfilled.
