A fire cannot burn through its ashes; only new wood and new fuel can. Let's say you're on a boat and you look behind you and the wake is moving. Can the wake steer the boat? The weight doesn't drive the boat; it doesn't steer the boat.
What steers and drives the present energy motor is what's happening in the present with the energy with the way you're turning the rudders, not by the wake. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be that comfortable driving a boat across the ocean while awake.
